IMS Regional Associations

Internal Regulations for IMS Regional Associations
1 Definition
- Regional Associations (RAs) are associations of IMS members sharing an interest in the music of a region.
- A region is understood as several adjacent countries.
2 Organization
- RAs comply with the Internal Regulations approved by the Directorium.
- Specific addenda to the Internal Regulations should be rendered to the Directorium.
- Every RA has to elect a chair. Other governing bodies (steering committee, executive board, etc.) are recommended and should be regulated in the addenda to the Internal Regulations.
- The RA chair functions as the liaison officer to the Directorium.
3 Installation and Terms
- To be recognized as an RA, the members of the association are required to organize an international meeting and submit a report of the meeting together with a mission statement, date and place of the next meeting, and a request for official recognition to the IMS. As soon as the Directorium has approved the request, the RA is officially installed.
- RAs are approved and renewed by the Directorium every five years.
4 Activities
- Meetings, in-person or online, are the main vehicle of scholarly communication among RA members. Such meetings should take place no less than once every two years.
- The members of the governing bodies have to be IMS members. The Directorium seeks to increase the proportion of IMS members taking part in the activities. Participants who are not IMS members should be encouraged to apply for membership if they wish to participate regularly in an RA’s activities.
- After each meeting the RA submits a report, including a program and a list of participants.
- The participation of RAs at IMS Congresses will be regulated by the organizing committee of each congress.
5 Dissolution
- RAs may dissolve themselves at any time. The request for dissolution has to be supported by the majority of the RA members.
- The Directorium is entitled to reconsider the status of RAs that do not comply with the Internal Regulations.
