Internal Regulations for IMS Study Groups
1 Definition
- Study Groups (SGs) are groups of IMS members sharing a common interest in a particular theme or field. The membership of the group should be international.
- The name of an SG should be reflected in the activities of the SG.
2 Organization
- SGs comply with the Internal Regulations approved by the Directorium.
- Specific addenda to the Internal Regulations should be rendered to the Directorium.
- Every SG has to elect a chair. Other governing bodies (steering committee, executive board, etc.) are optional and should be regulated in the addenda to the Internal Regulations.
- The SG chair functions as the liaison officer to the Directorium.
3 Installation and Terms
- To be recognized as an SG, the members of the group are required to organize an international meeting and submit a report of the meeting together with a mission statement and a request for official recognition to the IMS. As soon as the Directorium has approved the request, the SG is officially installed.
- SGs are approved by the Directorium for a five-year term and can be prolonged indefinitely in five-year terms, each upon request.
4 Activities
- Meetings, in-person or online, are the main vehicle of scholarly communication among SG members. Such meetings should take place no less than once every two years.
- The members of the governing bodies have to be IMS members. The Directorium seeks to increase the proportion of IMS members taking part in the activities of SGs to at least 50%. Participants who are not IMS members should be encouraged to apply for membership if they wish to participate regularly in an SG’s activities.
- After each meeting the SG submits a report, including a program and a list of participants.
- The participation of SGs at IMS Congresses will be regulated by the organizing committee of each congress.
5 Dissolution
- Unless a renewal is requested, SGs will be dissolved automatically after a five-year term.
- SGs may dissolve themselves at any time. The request for dissolution has to be supported by the majority of the SG members.
- The Directorium is entitled to reconsider the status of SGs that do not comply with the Internal Regulations.
